A dark, cellular cottage was adapted into a light, open-plan volume with views to the garden through a large bay window and dormer windows. The kitchen was moved to the heart of the cottage beneath an open gallery and the bathroom was moved upstairs. Reclaimed fittings complement the timber frame, which was repaired, stripped and oiled.

A timber-framed garden lodge provides a space for guests, with a sleeping platform amongst exposed rafters. The effect is essentially traditional, until the large sliding glazed panels are opened, transforming the lodge into a modern space with a seamless link to the landscaped garden, with views to the cottage and refurbished outbuildings.
