Boone's Chapel is a grade 1 listed building that was derelict and on the English Heritage register of buildings at risk. It was rescued by the Blackheath Preservation Trust, who gained funding from the AHF and HLF for repair, alterations and change of use. Having gained the initial funding, there was no clear-cut use that would fit in with Lottery rules and the project had stalled.

Kennedy O'Callaghan Architects was appointed to help move the project forwards. We assessed how the chapel might be extended and services introduced without detriment to its significant heritage status. We proposed and appraised options with minimal impact on the building and its historic setting. We investigated potential suitable end users that could make the project sustainable.

Fortuitously there was a positive outcome and the lease was awarded to an architectural and exhibition design practice, for use as an office with the chapel opened from time to time for exhibitions and a discreet temporary building was erected to the rear, to provide support accommodation and services.
