A small Victorian cottage in a conservation area was refurbished and extended to create a generous home.

The east wing was demolished to allow excavations for a large basement before it was reconstructed and extended. The basement extends under the front courtyard and the excavations include a walled garden to the rear to bring daylight and views to the basement rooms.

The floor area was increased in size by 350%.

The house is highly insulated and incorporates solar panels, whole house ventilation with heat recovery, geothermal air supply, air source heat pump and rainwater harvesting.

The extension was carefully designed to match the character of the original building and to contribute to the character of the conservation area.
